Watermill Carriage Co. Progress so far.

Watermill Carriage have begun taking the car apart in earnest. First to come out has been the engine and gearbox. The transmission tunnel has also been removed along with the dashboard, steering column, interior and associated wiring. The off side door has also been removed

The engine is looking in a pretty sad condition. The bottom end “refresh” done in October last year was a complete waste of time and money as the new shells have pitted already where the crankshast wasn’t reground. An expensive lesson in doing things properly.

Ring gear is worn due to incorrect starter motor being fitted

Timing chain is worn

Head needs refurbishing with new valve seats and guides etc.

Valves badly worn and in some cases, cracked

Cam lobes badly pitted. Followers also starting to pit.

The block isn’t in bad condition generally, but will require new pistons and liners

Oil pump with a filter that doesn’t really filter due to a big hole

Clutch plate is very old

Interior bulkhead with battery box now dashboard has been removed

The bulkhead and battery box is damaged so will be replaced with fresh panels

Although things are not looking great, it’s been reassuring to see the amount of progress made over such a short period of time (2 weeks so far). It feels as if no stone is being left unturned and any hidden horrors are being routed out and resolved.
